The body of Noal Bernard FISHER, Jefferson county youth who lost his life while serving his country during World War II, will arrive in Fairfield Wednesday morning, and will be laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery Thursday afternoon.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph V. FISHER, and the sixth of Jefferson county's Warld War II dead to be returned for burial.
The body will arrive at 12:50 a.m. Wednesday and will be taken to the Hoskins funeral home.
Last rites will be Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Christian church with Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Military honors will be in charge of the local post of the American Legion.
Seaman 1/c Noal FISHER was severely burned when his ship was bombed during the Salerno landing on September 2, 1943. He was taken off his ship and sent to the U. S. Army 80th Station hospital where he passed away on September 22. He was buried in the 2nd Corps cemetery at Bizerte, Tunisa, in North Africa.
Born in 1923
Noal Bernard FISHER was born December 13, 1923, in Jefferson county, the youngest son of Ralph V. and Bertha STUMP FISHER. He was a twin to his only sister.
His early life was spent in Locust Grove township where he attended the Brookville school. When his parents moved to Fairfield, he attended Washington grade school and Fairfield high school where he was enrolled as a sophomore when he enlisted in the U. S. Navy in the fall of 1941.
He took his boot training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station and was then assigned to the U.S.S. Savannah where he saw considerable action.
He took part in the Morocco landing between November 8 and 11, 1942, and saw action off Casablanca from July 9 to 15, 1943, and from July 28 to August 7 the same year. It was during action at the Salerno landing on September 9, 1943, that he received his fatal burns.
Noal was a member of the First Christian church in Fairfield and took an active part in its work, and attended regularly.
He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Paul, Chicago; and Marvin, Rock Island; one sister, Lola HOUCHIN, Bloomington, Illinois; and two nephews.

Note: Noal died during combat operations in WWII and was initially buried overseas. After the hostilities ended, per the request of the family, the process was begun to return Noel to Fairfield for re-burial. He was buried in this plot at Evergreen Cemetery on June 24, 1948.

Page SEVEN, Column 8Legion Auxiliary To Attend FISHER Rites
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary will meet at the Christian church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday to attend the funeral of Seaman 1/c Noal FISHER. That announcement was made this morning by officers of the organization.
FISHER is the sixth of Jefferson county's World War II dead to be returned home for burial. He will be laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery.
