Birdie NELSON

BIRMINGHAM (sic. in Van Buren county, Iowa) - Birdie Beatrice NELSON, 76, of rural Birmingham, died at 11:50 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 1994, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. David Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham. Open visitation will begin Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established.

Mrs. NELSON was born July 4, 1917, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Cyrus Guy and M. Anna HENDRICKS BAILEY. She graduated from Parsons College and received additional degrees from University of Mexico, and University of Madrid in Spain. She taught Spanish in Birmingham and the Fairfield Community School District. She married Roy Lawrence NELSON, who preceded her in death (sic. Sept. 15, 1986). She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Birmingham.

Surviving are a daughter, Debbie CHEELY of Birmingham; a son, Gerald G. of Birmingham; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her parents preceded her in death.
