Betty Lou WONDERLICH, 81, of Sigourney and formerly of Ollie died Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at the Manor House in Sigourney. She was born Tuesday, October 15, 1929, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Opal SHERADEN SHY. She graduated from Ollie High School with the Class of 1947. Following school she worked as a mother's helper to the Raymond Brown family in Packwood for several years. On March 21,1948, she was united in marriage to Milford WONDERLICH in Ottumwa. Following marriage she traveled with Milford when he was working as a lineman. In 1951 they moved back to the Ollie area and lived on the farm with her Uncle William C. SHY. Together they farmed here until 1987. She was a full-time care giver to her Uncle Bill until his death in 1968. They began wintering in Arizona in 1984 and moved there full-time in 1987. In January 2007 they moved back to Iowa. She always had a homemade snack ready for her kids when they got off the school bus. She was a member of the Ollie Baptist Church and had a very deep love for her Lord Jesus Christ. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, raising chickens and most of all caring for her family.
Her family includes her husband: Milford of Sigourney; two sons: Dennis WONDERLICH of Ollie and Randy (& Debbie) WONDERLICH of Des Moines; two daughters: Janis (& Salvatore) SCIARROTTA of Florida and Karen (& Mark) POMEROY of Lincoln, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren: Jason and Shawn WONDERLICH, Travis COOP, Steve, Aaron and Tim POMEROY; 8 great grandchildren and two brothers: Donald (& Thelma) SHY of Ollie and William "Bill" (& Arleen) SHY of Dixon, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two nephews and a niece.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Ollie Baptist Church in Ollie with the Reverend Carla Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the Ollie Cemetery at Ollie. Visitation will begin Friday after 1 p.m in the Fremont Funeral Chapel with the family present from 5 - 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Ollie Baptist Church.
