Matthew Elliott BANNIER, 38, of Stockport died August 6, 2011 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Saturday afternoon South of Bonaparte near Highway 2.
He was born January 13, 1973 at Burlington, Iowa to William E. BANNIER and Naomi J. HARLAN BECKMAN. He had lived in Danville for 18 years. Matthew was a Des Moines County 4-H member for many years, showing cattle and swine. He exhibited art work at Iowa State Fair. He was named outstanding Des Moines County 4-H person in 1991.
He graduated Danville High School in 1991. He studied art at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa for one year.
Matthew worked as a correctional officer at the Iowa State Prison for 13 ½ years.
He was an outstanding artist and was an avid Nascar fan of Number 24.
He had a great love for hunting and the outdoors. Hunting both bow and black powder, fishing and photography of wildlife made him a great outdoorsman. His love of animals was always present, as he adopted many dogs and a cat.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Deane N. HARLAN; and his grandmother Jane BANNIER.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather: Naomi HARLAN and Rodney BECKMAN of Stockport, Father: William and Sandra BANNIER of West Burlington; one Brother: William N. BANNIER and wife Marla and niece Amanda L BANNIER of St. Joseph, Mo.; a half sister Rachael WELLS and husband Brant and nephew Eathan WELLS of Tocca Falls, GA.; 2 step-brothers: Evan (Patty) BECKMAN and Steven (Teri) BECKMAN. His grandmother Nola HARLAN and grandfather Louis BANNIER. 4 nieces and 1 nephew and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Fairfield with Pastor Stacy Grau officiating.
Interment will be in the Spencer Cemetery near Stockport.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
Memorials have been established for an Education Fund or to the Spencer Cemetery.
Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.

Front PageMan killed in wreck
A Van Buren County man was killed in a motorcycle accident Saturday near Bonaparte.
About 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Matthew Elliott BANNIER, age 38, of Stockport was traveling west on Highway 2 when he lost control of his motorcycle near County Road 40. The motorcycle entered the north ditch and collided with a metal road sign.
BANNIER was transported by the Farmington Ambulance Service to Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua, where he was pronounced dead at 4:42 p.m. due to severe head injuries. Authorities say he was not wearing a helmet.
The funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Fairfield, with interment in Spencer Cemetery near Stockport.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
The Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.
