Roth BONNELL MOYER

Ruth BONNELL MOYER, 92 a retired Fairfax County school teacher, died July 18 at he residence at The Virginian Retirement Community in Fairfax, Virginia after a brief illness.

Mrs. MOYER was born Ruth O. BONNELL in Fairfield, Iowa in 1918. She graduated with honors from Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa in 1939, majoring in English, Speech and Drama.

For a brief time she taught High School in Oakville, Iowa before marrying her College sweetheart, Robert Mitchell MOYER, also of Fairfield, in 1941. The MOYERs relocated to Northern Virginia in 1944. In 1957 Ruth and family settled in Fairfax, Va., and she began substitute teaching at Wakefield Forest and Mantua Elementary Schools, often working full time for months. In 1993 Ruth and Bob MOYER moved to The Virginian where Ruth was active on the Vespers Committee, Chaired the Library Committee, and hosted a weekly in-house television interview program.

Ruth was a 74 year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, beginning in Fairfield at age 18. She is a charter member and past president of P.E.O., Chapter J., Alexandria, Va.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1997.

She is survived by her daughters, Janet RASKIN and husband Rick, Jeanie ODENTHAL and husband Joe, grandchildren, Lauren ODENTHAL, Brian RASKIN and Leah RASKIN.
