Mildred R. BARKER

Mildred R. BARKER, 91, of Keosauqua, formerly of Fort Madison and Douds, died at 3:35 a.m. today, Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren Hospice in Keosauqua.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Mildred R. BARKER

Mildred R. BARKER, 91, of Keosauqua, formerly of Fort Madison and Douds, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren Hospice in Keosauqua.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, with the Rev. Ann Donat officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the family present from 6-7:30 p.m.

Memorials to Christ United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society may be left a tthe funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 1004 W. Burlington Ave., Fairfield 52556.

Mrs. BARKER was born April 17, 1920, a mile north of Sharon Presbyterian Church, the daughter of Ralph and Carrie MOORE COMPTON. She married Edmund F. DAUGHERTY Oct. 17, 1951, at First Methodist Church in Fort Madison. He died in 1964. She married Ellis D. BARKER, May 2, 1987, at First Methodist Church in Fort Madison. He died Sept. 11, 2005.

Mrs. BARKER graduated from Bonaparte High School. She took classes at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, Burlington Junior College and Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. She taught in Van Buren and Lee county rural schools and worked at W.A. Scheaffer Pen Co. of Fort Madison until retiring in 1984. Mrs. BARKER lived in Fort Madison, on a farm southwest of Douds and in Country Lane Apartments in Keosauqua.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Order of the Eastern Star Twin City Chapter No. 258 of Douds, Valley Club of Douds and Van Buren County Retired School Personnel.

Survivors include one son-in-law, Jeffrey CHICOINE of Greensboro, N.C.; three grandchildren; and one stepdaughter, Linda LITE and husband Robert of Fairfield Bay, Ark.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Karen CHICOINE; one brother, Thomas COMPTON; and one sister, Florence MUNTZ.
