EARLY SETTLER DIED YESTERDAY

Mrs. Louisa MILLER Critically Ill Since Saturday; Funeral Held Tomorrow

Mrs. Louisa MILLER, widow of Noah S. MILLER, and a well known pioneer resident of this city, passed away yesterday afternoon at 3:50 oclock at her home, 505 North Main street, after being critically ill since Saturday. Her health had been failing for the past two years, but she had been feeling as well as usual prior to her last illness.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 oclock from the home in charge of Rev. R. H. Polly, assisted by Rev. Melvin A. Pearce. Interment will be in the Antioch cemetery.

Mrs. MILLER was formerly Miss Louisa COATS, daughter of William and Lucy COATS, and was born August 11, 1842 near Springfield, Ill. She came with her parents to Iowa when a child. She was united in marriage to Mr. MILLER at her parent's home 8 miles north of the city, Jan. 31, 1861 by Rev. Ed. McCarty, a Methodist minister.

Mr. and Mrs. MILLER lived for forty years on their farm 8 miles north of Fairfield, until 11 years ago when they came to this city to spend their remaining years. Mr. MILLER passed away at their home here June 22, 1926. They had celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary just a few months before his death.

Nine children were born to this union and all are living with the exception of a son Alpha MILLER, who died when 28 years old. Those surviving are: E. W. MILLER of Reno, Nev., Mrs. Mary I. BENZ and Mrs. George L. McDANIEL of Washington, Mrs. Nelle SMITH of Muscatine, Ed MILLER and Noah S. MILLER, Jr., Mrs. Fred MATHER and Mrs. Carl TYGRET, all of this city.

Note: At the bottom of the source article is a hand-written note indicating there is an obituary for Eugene W. MILLER, son of N.S. MILLER, who was born in 1864; Eugene died in Nevada at age 91 and an obituary appeared in the Ledger on 30 Nov. 1955.
