A. Luvene "Skeeter" HEALD, 88, of Keosauqua, died at 4:03 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Arthur Luvene 'Skeeter' HEALD

Arthur Luvene "Skeeter" HEALD, 88, of Keosauqua, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. F riday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with Lee McIntosh officiating. Burial, with military rites by American Legion Beer-Barker Post 113 of Keosauqua, will be in Harness Cemetery, Mount Sterling.

Open visitation began at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the family present 6-7:30 p.m.

Memorials toward a bench at Riverview Country Club in Keosauqua or Harness Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 20502 215th St., Keosauqua 52565.

Mr. HEALD was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Cantril, the son of Russell Todd and Grace Amanda CARNAHAN HEALD. He married Ethel Marilyn HORNER April 1, 1949, at the Congregational parsonage in Keosauqua. She died in 2002.

Mr. HEALD graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1939. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps Nov. 3, 1942, and was a member of the 71st Fighter Squadron, 1st Fighter Group, serving as a propellor mechanic for the fighter planes in Italy.

Mr. HEALD returned to Mount Sterling and began farming with his father. He and his wife lived on the Heald Farm just south of Mount Sterling until the summer of 1962 when they moved to Keosauqua. Mr. HEALD continued to farm south of Mount Sterling until 1995.

Mr. HEALD was a member of American Legion Beer-Barker Post 113 of Keosauqua.

He andhis wife enjoyed spending Christmas with family. He also enjoyed taking his grandchildren for golf cart rides.

Survivors include six children, Carolyn MIYASAKI and husband Stanley of Firestone, Colo., Gloria WHITE and husband Rick of Revere, Mo., Robert and wife Shelly of Keosauqua, Julie GATZ and husband Todd of Ely, Minn., Mary Beth WATSON and husband Jan of Urbandale and Tracey CREES and husband Michael of Des Moines; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Glenn HEALD of Auxvasse, Mo.; and two sisters, Betty WARRINGTON of Burlington and Beverly BLAIR of Keosauqua.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.
