SALTS Rites To Be Wednesday

ABINGDON, Ia. -- Vernon M. SALTS, life-time resident of Jefferson county, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Jefferson County hospital in Fairfield where he had been a patient since Thursday. He was taken to the hospital after suffering a stroke.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral home with the Rev. Kermit Black of Batavia in charge. Burial will be in the Abingdon cemetery.

Vernon M. SALTS, 72, was born Sept. 4, 1886, on a farm south of Brookville in Jefferson county, the son of the late David and Barbara FISHER SALTS.

He was reared and educated in Brookville - Abingdon community and was united in marriage to Zelma JOHNSTON on June 3, 1908. The marriage took place at Brookville. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and the Modern Woodman (sic - Woodmen) lodge.

Besides his wife, Vernon SALTS is survived by a son, Ernest SALTS, Fairfield; one daughter; Mrs. Beulah DAHL, North Brook, Ill.; one grandson and one brother, Charley SALTS, Abingdon. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
