Mrs. H. E. SMITH, 82, long-time resident of the Abingdon community passed away this morning at 8:30 a.m. at her home in Abingdon. She had been in failing health the past year, and seriously ill the past few days.
The body was taken to the Campbell-Rupp funeral home in Batavia where last rites are pending.
Mrs. Nettie SMITH was born December 18, 1865, in Livingston county, Illinois, the daughter of the late Duston (sic - Nathaniel Dustin) and Margaret LUCE DeGOOD.
She was united in marriage to H. E. SMITH who preceeded (sic) her in death. Mrs. SMITH was also preceded in death by a son. She was a member of the Christian church at Abingdon.
Surviving are four daughters: Mrs. Maude NORDYKE, Batavia, Mrs. Grace ODUM, Agency, Mrs. Arminta GOBBLE, Ottumwa, Margaret, at home, and three sons: John, Culver City, California, Carl, Maple Plain, Minnesota, and R. E. SMITH, Libertyville.
