Helen Fern JOHNSTON SEDORE

Helen Fern JOHNSTON SEDORE, 100, of Parkview Care Center and formerly of Eldon died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at the center.

The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Christian Church in Eldon with the Rev. George Conz officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa. Open visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Kremer Funeral Home in Eldon. Memorials may be directed to the Christian Church or donor's choice.

Mrs. SEDORE was born March 5, 1899, in Kirkville, the daughter of Jediah and Effie SHAW JOHNSTON. She married Ralph F. SEDORE Feb. 5, 1921, in Fremont. He died Oct. 23, 1958.

She graduated from Eddyville High School in 1918 and taught in Wapello County rural schools before and during World War II.

After her husband's death, she sold her farm south of Ottumwa and moved to live closer to her daughter in rural Eldon. She lived in the city of Eldon from 1963-1981 and then moved back to rural Eldon to live in a mobile home in her daughter's yard. She entered Parkview Care Center in 1995.

She was a member of Christian Church in Eldon and Oakdale Women's Club. She was a former 4-H leader.

Survivors include two sons, LaVerne SEDORE of Fairfield and John Wayne SEDORE of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Thelma RUPE of Eldon and Patricia FRIEBERG of Fairfield; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Maurice JOHNSTON of Knoxville.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Clyde, Guy, Clarence, Paul and Dale; two infant sisters, Margaret and Hazel; and one granddaughter.
