Annabell HOUSTON

Annabell HOUSTON, 73, of 803 N. Ninth St., died at 10:03 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard L. White officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Public Health Nurses of Jefferson County or to the Jefferson County Hospice.

Mrs. HOUSTON was born June 2, 1926, in Jefferson County, the daughter of John and Myrtle FRAKES HAGANS. She married Joseph LeRoy COOK in Memphis, Mo. He died in 1945 while serving in the armed forces. She married Charles MADDEX June 3, 1950, in Fairfield. Later, she married Bryon HOUSTON April 6, 1957, in Iowa City. He died Sept. 7, 1987.

Mrs. HOUSTON was a lifetime resident of Fairfield. She had worked at a number of places, including Universal Producing Company, Parsons College, Fairfield Glove Factory, Broadway Bakery, Fairfield Senior Center, and as a home health aide for the Department of Human Services.

Survivors include four sons, Howard COOK of Richland, Larry COOK of Mount Pleasant, Jack COOK of Olney, Md., and Delbert HOUSTON of Fairfield; three daughters, Nancy BILLINGLEY (sic - BILLINGSLEY) and Linda GRIDLEY, both of Fairfield, and Joyce MORKIN of Monroe City, Mo.; 21 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Paul, Bud, Jack, Merle, Verle and Pete HAGANS; and two sisters, Faye HUDGEONS and Violet JERREL.

Note: While the two obituaries appear very similar to one another, the names of her first and third husbands and of one of her sons were changed in the March 1st publication. She is buried in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with husband Bryan, he in lot Devotion A 191, space 6, and she in Devotion B 19, space 5; physically these are a couple rows apart.
