Frank C. VOCKE, 91, of Cantril, died at 11:55 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2011, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial, with military rites by American Legion Russell-Strait Post, will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril.
Family visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials to Maple Grove Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at P.O. Box 55, Cantril 52542.
Mr. VOCKE was born April 30, 1920, in Grand Island, Neb., the son of William and Rebecca LEISER VOCKE. He married Mildred ISBRANDTSEN Dec. 21, 1947, in Loup City, Neb.
Mr. VOCKE grew up in Nebraska and started farming at age 18 with horses and mules. The VOCKEs moved to a farm near Cantril in 1955 and back to Nebraska in 1983. They lived for a time in Madrid, N.M., before returning to Sargent, Neb., then Cantril in April 2009.
Mr. VOCKE served in the United States Air Force from 1943-1945.
Mr. VOCKE was a member of American Legion Russell-Strait Post 483 of Milton.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Gary and wife Pin TIP of Silver Spring, Md., Robert and wife Karla LAURITSEN of White Salmon, Wash., John of Milford, Ind., Tom of Lake Havasu, Ariz., and Fred and wife Luann of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Marian MACIEJEWSKI of Broken Bow, Neb., and Irene TACL of Kearney, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Patrick; two brothers, Bill and Bob VOCKE; and one sister, Margaret VOCKE.
