Claudia Jean PURVES

Claudia Jean PURVES, age 59, died peacefully in Tucson, AZ on June 24. Her children, Amy MORRIS (29) of Singapore and William HAWTHORNE (27) of Minneapolis, were by her side.

In addition to her beloved children, she is survived by her father, Ray PURVES, and step-mother, Karin, of Rochester, MN; her brother, John PURVES, and sister in-law, Gwen, of Saint Paul, MN; her nephews, Eric and Justin PURVES, also of Saint Paul; her son in-law, Brian MORRIS of Singapore; and her many devoted friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis.

Claudia was born August 23, 1951 in Rochester, MN and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Physical Therapy. She earned a masters degree in Higher Education Administration from Maharishi International University and was a trained teacher of the Transcendental Meditation technique. During her subsequent career as a physical therapist, she worked with a wide range of patients. As a visiting home therapist in southeastern Iowa, she was well-respected for her dedication and caring. She especially loved working with children and babies.

Claudia's inclusive spirituality embraced a variety of passions ranging from the outdoors and travel to Native American ceremonies and comparative religious studies. She was an ordained Priest with Spritus Christi Church, an independent Liberal Catholic Church. She loved learning about the healing arts and alternative medicine and using her knowledge to help others. Her kind, open heart and her giving nature are a legacy that lives on with her family and friends. She was a gardener extraordinaire, a dedicated mother, cherished daughter and deeply loved friend.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 2, 10 a.m. at Fellowship of the Holy Spirit, 51 North Court (east side of the square) Fairfield, IA.
