Page 3, unspecified columnABINGDON--Evan (sic - Evin on stone) FLEENER, one of our oldest settlers, died August 11th, 1890, after only two days' illness. He was born in Washington County, Virginia, December 1st, 1806. From Virginia he removed to Indiana, thence, in 1843, to Iowa. He settled at Abingdon on the farm now owned by Amos Vanness. He owned a part of the land where Abingdon now is, and laid it off in lots, and it is still known as Fleener's Addition. He united with the M.E. church the same year he came to Iowa and has ever since been a devoted and consistent member and a trusted church officer. Deceased was widely known and respected by all who knew him. He had been married three times, his third wife surviving him with three children, Mrs. Doc McCREERY of Martinsburg, Mrs. Wesley CAMPBELL of Hamilton, and Marcellus FLEENER of Holdrege, Neb. By his own request funeral services were conducted by Rev. James Thompson of Sigourney, an old friend......

Note: Buried in Abingdon Cemetery. His wives were 1)Jane SMITH, 2)Mary WEBB GARBER, and 3)Rachel PLUMMER. Mary and Rachel are also buried in Abingdon Cemetery.
