JAMES PETERS DIED AT 2 TODAY - At His Home in Abingdon Following Stroke; Funeral Thursday at 2.

James PETERS, 83 years old, and the last Civil War veteran in Polk Township, died this morning at 2 o'clock at his home in Abingdon following a stroke of paralysis Monday morning. The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Christian church at Abingdon, with burial in the cemetery nearby.

Mr. PETERS had attended the G.A.R. Memorial services at Abingdon Sunday and had marched to the cemetery. He was stricken Monday morning as he was dressing.... He is survived by six children: Mrs. Bertha POWELSON, who has lived with him since the death of his wife three years ago (sic - Nov. 6, 1924); Mrs. Matilda CLINE; Mrs. Millie WILSON; Charles and Ben of Abingdon, Rolland of Aurora, Nebr., and the eldest son, John, who was last heard of in Colorado. He also leaves two sisters: Mrs. J. L. EVERETT of Ft. Madison and Mrs. Lucinda CLARK of Mt. Pleasant.
