BASIL D. MOWERY IS DEAD.

Basil D. MOWERY, a resident of Polk township, this county, half a century, died at Hedrick Thursday. Mr. MOWERY was born in Knox County, O., Oct. 12, 1836, and came here with his parents ten years later. He was a soldier in the Civil War, lieutenant of Company D, Nineteenth Iowa Infantry, serving from 1862 to the close of hostilities. He was married, in 1871, to Sarah J. SMITH, who died in 1886. March 26, 1891, he married Lida A. MILLER, who, with two sons, survives him. Mr. MOWERY removed to Hedrick in 1896 and was vice president of the State bank of that place. He was a good man and citizen and a brave soldier, and old Jefferson County friends will mourn his loss. He has two brothers residing in this county at this time, F.P. and J.B. MOWERY of Polk township.
