ABINGDON--William SPURLOCK died at his home near Bladensburg December 23d; the body was buried at this place Christmas day.

Note: According to the 1900 Census of Pleasant Township, Wapello County, Iowa, William was 82 years old, born in August, 1817. His wife was Elizabeth A., age 80. They had been married for 61 years and had a total of 11 children.

Addendum from a family researcher: Elizabeth Ann MASON SPURLOCK was born May 1st, 1820, in Spencer Co., IN, married to William SPURLOCK on October 4, 1939, and died in Miltonville, KS, Nov. 5, 1913, aged 93 years, 6 months and 4 days. She is buried in Concordia Cemetery. (Obituary in the Miltonville (KS) Record, October 6, 1913.)

Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," January 2, 1904:

Wm. SPURLOCK, aged 86 years, died at his home, one mile south of Bladensburg, Wednesday, December 23, 1903. He leaves an aged wife, two sons and two daughters, besides a host of friends to mourn his loss. He was a member of the Church of Christ at Bladensburg and had been a minister of the gospel for several years. The funeral was conducted at Abingdon, where the interment was made.
