HOLD MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR HAROLD ALLEN

Many friends attend last rites for widely known F.H.S. senior

Memorial services were held yesterday afternoon for Harold Eugene ALLEN, 17, who passed away Thursday morning. The services were held in the Weston Behner funeral home, in charge of Rev. William R. Yingling. Approximately 250 friends and relatives were present to pay their final tribute to the popular young man.

In the memorial service, Rev. Yingling reminded those gathered for the services that this was not the sorrow of eternal separation. He quoted comforting passages from the familiar hymn "Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to thy bosom fly, while the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high. Hide me, O my Savior, hide, till the storm of life is past."

After quoting scripture passages, Rev. Yingling likened death to a door. The text was taken from the 90th Psalm: "A thousand years in thy sight are as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night."

"To mortals, time is all-important", Rev. Yingling declared. "We measure everything by time. But with God time is less important.

Life is not judged in years. Some novelist rather recently have portrayed characters who seem to have lived their whole lives within two or three days. Whether this is possible or not, we do realize that mere number of years means little. Methusaleh was not the greatest of men because he lived the longest. Quality counts more than quantity."

Interment was in Evergreen cemetery, where Rev. Yingling conducted a brief service at the grave, which was banked with a profusion of floral tributes. Pallbearers at the funeral home were Harry Frey, Ronald Norman, Roy Thomas, Keith McWilliams, Dale Simmons and Walter Marks, while Gerald Jones assisted at the cemetery.

'QUILL' OUT YESTERDAY
High school year book dedicated to championship 1940-41 teams

The high school yearbook, The Quill, was released to some 450 students yesterday when they were called at 3 p.m. to their home rooms to receive the long awaited books. Keith Prizer, faculty advisor with his efficient staff of seniors and the junior Pen Scratchers have been hard at work for many weeks preparing copy and pictures. They were able to get the finished edition into the hands of the students a few days earlier than usual by giving their spring vacation over to working on the annual.

The book, a deep wine in color with white binding, contains 112 pages, 16 more than standard size. Division pages are in matching wine and at the top of each page is the cut of the new high school. Some 123 seniors (sic - 117) with their individual pictures are listed with their activities during their four years.

A direct departure from custom was the fact that the staff did their own photography for the junior, sophomore and freshman cuts, the Wilkerson studio assisting in the technical matters.

Dedication went to the championship football and basketball teams of 1940-41. In Memoriam was to Harold ALLEN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. ALLEN who would have been graduated with the class of '41.

The usual class history, will, jokes, etc. have been included, lending their bit of humor.
