Wayne Eugene SMITH

Wayne Eugene SMITH, 87, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

A service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Mike Metz officiating. Burial will be in Fell Cemetery, south of Libertyville.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa, Great River Hospice, Veterans of Foreign Wars or Izaak Walton Club. Cards and memorials may be sent to 802 W. Harrison Ave., Fairfield 52556.

Mr. SMITH was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Keosauqua, the son of Dale and Jessie GROVES SMITH. He married Barbara Jean RAIL Sept. 7, 1948, at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield.

Mr. SMITH was owner of Wayne's Body and Fender and then Smith Auto Parts.

He served in World War II with the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Chicago for three years.

Mr. SMITH was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, First United Methodist Church and Iowa Auto Recyclers.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and mushroom hunting.

Survivors include his wife; four children: Sharlene SMITH of Milan, Tenn., Vicki WISCHMEIER and husband Dennis of Sperry, Timothy SMITH and wife Sherri of Fairfield and Randy SMITH and wife Terri of Davenport; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: J.P. SMITH.
