Judy MAEDER

Judy MAEDER, 65, of Richland, died in her home, surrounded by her family, at 8:40 P.M. Tuesday May 17, 2011. She was born August 7, 1945, in Fairfield, the daughter of Chalmers and Elizabeth DUKE HOSKINS. Judy grew up in the Fairfield area, graduated from Fairfield High School and attended Northeast Missouri State College. As a young person, she greatly enjoyed 4H activities and attending the Iowa State Fair. Judy and Mel MAEDER were married on May 30, 1964 at Woolson Friends Church. They began their married life on a farm north of Richland, having four children and attending Hopewell Friends Church. They later owned and operated Maeder's Mill in Richland. Judy also worked several years at Jefferson County Hospital and then the Iowa State Bank in Fairfield. She and her husband lived most of their married life in Richland with a few years in Packwood. Judy was an active member of Woolson Friends Church, USFW, Rubio Ladies Club, American Legion Auxiliary in Richland, and the National Guard Family Support Group. She also faithfully supported the school, civic and church activities of her children and grandchildren.

Spending time with family and friends was always the joy of Judy's life. She never met a stranger, couldn't plan a party big enough, and loved sharing stories and making people, especially younger ones, laugh. She also enjoyed being creative, writing letters and cards, sewing, quilting, cooking and crocheting. She loved doing things for others and always wanted to keep up with the people and things going on around her.

She is survived by her husband and four children: Jeff MAEDER (Linda) of Columbus Junction, Nancy MAEDER of Carrboro, NC, Daniel MAEDER (Angela) of Richland and Jason MAEDER of Liberty, MO, six grandchildren: Elise, Avery, Mary, Hunter, Carson and Cora, her brother, Raymond "Bub" HOSKINS (Lynn) of Knoxville, IA and her sister Mary DUNAWAY (Tim) of Shelbina, MO.
