Frank RIZOR Sr. Taken In Death; Rites Wednesday

Frank P. (sic. “P” in obituary, should be “R” for Roscoe) RIZOR Sr., 73, 1104 S. Main St., died Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Jefferson County Hospital after a brief illness. He had been in failing health for the past year and a half.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Hoyt Whitebread officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. IOOF services will also be held at the church and American Legion military rites will follow at the grave. Arrangements are in charge of the Weston Behner Funeral Home.

A lifetime resident of this county, RIZOR served as a rural mail carrier for 38 years before his retirement.

RIZOR was born Dec. 5, 1897 near Glendale, the son of Walter W. and Ida Frances ALBERT RIZOR. He was married to Dollie C. HUFFMAN June 4, 1918.

Surviving are his widow and the following children: Mrs. Harold RINDERKNECHT, Cedar Rapids; Frank RIZOR Jr., Fairfield; Mrs. Ernest WIENER, Rock Island, Ill.; and Mrs. Willard MACY, Fairfield.

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and two brothers: Delbert RIZOR, Daton Beach, Fla.; and Hugh RIZOR, Fairfield Route 1.

RIZOR was a member of the Lutheran Church and a veteran of Word War I. A member of the Odd Fellows for 49 years, he was active in Jefferson Lodge No. 4, Fairfield Encampment No. 6, Bigelow Canton No. 6 of Ottumwa; and Hawkeye Rebekah Lodge No. 386.

He was past grand patriarch of the Grand Encampment of Iowa and department commander of the Patriachs Militant Branch of Iowa. He also served as a sovereign grand lodge representative from the State of Iowa.

RIZOR was a former commander of the local American Legion post and a former state officer of the Iowa Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Assn., and the National Association of Retired Civil Employees.
