OBITUARY.

Catherine KELLEY was born July 21st, 1825, in Fayette County, Penn., and came to Iowa in 1855. She was married to William H. KELLEY December 6th, 1846. Of this union eight children were born, of whom five are living -- John V. KELLEY of Salina, Mary PHILLIPS of Custer county, Neb., Rebecca HODSON of Pleasant Plain, William KELLEY of Fairfield and Eve May TURNER of Four Corners. She died at the home of her son, near Fairfield, February 12th, at the age of seventy-two (sic - 75) years, seven months twelve days.... She selected the hymn, "I Would Not Live Always" to be sung at her funeral. Burial services were held at Lockridge in the Baptist church, and were conducted by Rev. S. T. Horton.... Interment was made in the Hopkirk cemetery.

Note: Maiden name was PIERCE. Her gravestone only lists a birthdate and age at death; it does not give her date of death. She was born July 1, 1825, and was 75 years, 7 months, 12 days old. Additionally, her given name is spelled as Catharine on the stone. A photo of the stone is linked from the cemetery listing.
