Wesley Eugene SODERGREN, 85, of Independence and a former resident of Lockridge died at 9 a.m. Sunday, March 18, 2001, at his home in Independence.
A memorial service will be held at the new (sic. New) Sweden Lutheran Cemetery northwest of Lockridge at a later date.
Mr. SODERGREN was born Aug. 24, 1915, in Lockridge, the son of Victor O. and Clara M. TURNER SODERGREN. He married Lula P. LONG Sept. 18, 1936, in Kahoka, Mo. She died Oct. 30, 1993.
He graduated from Lockridge High School and worked for the United States Navy in Ottumwa for four years. He worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown during World War II. He taught school at Stockport, Pulaski, and New London and retired from teaching in Waterloo.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Waterloo, National Education Association, Waterloo Technical Society and AARP.
He is survived by two sons, Wesley E. SODERGREN Jr. of Bakersfield, Calif., and Jerry L. SODERGREN of Waterloo; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl SODERGREN of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and one sister-in-law, Lorranine (sic. Lorraine) JENNINGS, of rural Mount Pleasant.
