DEATH OF AN OLD SETTLER.

Reuben CHILCOTT, a well known resident of Lockridge township, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. LONG, in Salina, April 27th, at 11 a.m. Deceased was born in Huntingdon County, Penn., April 14th, 1812. He came to Iowa in 1853, settling on a farm one-half mile east of Salina, where he lived until three years ago. Since the death of his wife (sic - Missouri GREENLAND CHILCOTT), February 6th, 1886, he has made his home with the daughter named above. He was confined to his room for about three months preceding his death. ... Two sons and three daughters survive the father.... an obliging neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand in time of need. The funeral occurred Sunday afternoon, Rev. J. E. Wilkins conducting the services. A large company of old friends accompanied the remains to the family cemetery, a mile east of Salina, where the body was laid to rest by the side of those who have gone before. J.D.B.
