Eloise POOS

Eloise POOS, 80, of Memphis, Mo., died Friday afternoon, April 22, 2011, at Scotland County Care Center in Memphis.

A funeral was held Tuesday at Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis, Mo., with the Rev. Charles Hammack and the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Interment was in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Van Buren County.

Memorials to the family may be mailed to Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, MO 63555.

Mrs. POOS was born Sept. 9, 1930, in Van Buren County, the daughter of Robert and Minnie EVANS CARR. She married Henry "Tiny" POOS Jan. 28, 1949. He died in October 1976.

Mrs. POOS grew up in Van Buren County and graduated from high school in Selma in 1949. The POOSes lived in Selma. In her earlier years, Mrs. POOS worked as a homemaker, a cook at the Girl Scout camp in Eldon and a housekeeper for the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She also babysat many different children.

Mrs. POOS enjoyed reading, embroidering, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and going to Ottumwa to shop and eat at Burger King.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary COCHRAN and husband Emmett of Memphis, Mo., and Linda COCHRAN and husband David of Memphis, Mo.; one son, Randy POOS and wife Nancy of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; six stepgreatgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Murl, Orville and Leonard CARR.
