Robert A. CRAIG

Robert A. CRAIG, 89, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Keosauqua, died at 5:34 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Park Place Care Center in Mount Pleasant.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Keosauqua United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pittsburg Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Beer-Barker Post 113.

A reception for Mount Pleasant friends will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Sunday at Stonebrook Assisted Living Center in Mount Pleasant.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the family present from 4-5:30 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m.

Memorials to Robert Craig 4-H Fund or Pittsburg Cemetery may be left at the assisted living center, funeral home or church. Memorials also may be mailed to the family at 904 E. Mapleleaf Drive, Mount Pleasant 52641.

Mr. CRAIG was born July 24, 1921, in Pittsburg, the son of Colin P. and Mabel PENDARVIS CRAIG. He married Mary Eileen LOWDER Oct. 29, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Mr. CRAIG attended Pittsburg rural school and graduated from Keosauqua High School. He farmed and raised livestock in Van Buren County. He also had owned and operated the Keosauqua Sale Barn. The CRAIGs lived in and around Keosauqua for 62 years until moving to Mount Pleasant in 2007.

Mr. CRAIG served in the United States Navy Air Force in Brazil during World War II.

Mr. CRAIG was a member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church, American Legion Beer-Barker Post 113, Van Buren County Farm Bureau and Van Buren County Cattlemen's Association. He was a longtime 4-H leader.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Larry CRAIG and wife Cheryl of Stanardsville, Va.; two daughters, Barbara CRAIG of West Des Moines and Betty MOORE and husband Chad of Mount Pleasant; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Louise HARRYMAN; and two brothers, John E. and Wayne CRAIG.
