"DIED - On the 27th ult., at Keokuk Hospital, Mr. William Pattison, of the First Iowa Artillery, aged 18 years, 1 month and 9 days. The deceased was among the first that sprang to arms to defend the dignity of our flag. He first joined Co. E, 2nd Iowa, but was rejected, being too young. He then enrolled his name in the First Artillery. . . . .He was engaged in the Battle of Pea Ridge, and was with Curtis in his subsequent perilous march to Helena. He was taken sick at Helena, with Camp Fever and Diarrhoea, and was removed to Keokuk. . . . .He is another victim of that monster, War, which is desolating our land. He has gone, but why should we weep? Why should we grieve because he has - - "Gone to his Eternal home, Where toil and trouble cannot come."
