"DEATH OF A CENTENARIAN.
We have learned some of the particulars of the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Davis, who died in New London, Iowa, February 19th, 1883. As nearly as can be ascertained Mrs. Davis was 102 years of age. She was born in North Carolina, and removed from there with her parents to Kentucky. In the latter state she was married to Mr. John Moore, by whom she had nine children, all boys. The family moved to Illinois and from there to Iowa. A few years after the death of Mr. Moore, the widow married Thomas Davis, who died some years after marriage. Mr. Samuel Moore, of this county, now in his 73d year, is the fourth son of Mrs. Davis. She has many grandchildren and great grandchildren, but the number cannot be ascertained. It is known that there are at least four great-great-grandchildren. In early life she joined the M. E. church, of which she was a consistent member, living her religion daily. Up to within a few days of her death, she was quite active. Her delight was to make patch-work quilts, and last summer she could readily thread a fine needle without the aid of glasses. Her remains were interred at New London."
