"DEATH OF MRS. NANCY MOORE. . . . .Wife of Samuel Moore, died at her home in this city early Sabbath morning. . . . .Her maiden name was Nancy Hoskins, and she was born in Woodford County, Kentucky, on June 29th, 1815. As a child of ten years she removed to Morgan County, Ill., where on August 11th, 1831, she was married to her now bereaved husband. The young couple removed to this county in 1837, and shortly after located on a farm in Cedar township which Mr. Moore still owns and upon which they resided until November, 1886, the date of their removal to this city. Mrs. Moore was the mother of 11 children, six of whom are still living - Rev. Daniel Moore of Osmond County, Kansas; George H. Moore of Colfax County, Nebraska; Mrs. Lucretia Yount of New London; Mrs. Melissa Ferguson of Villisca, and Mrs. William Gilbert of this city. All were present at the funeral with the exception of the eldest son. Of the five children dead three were stricken with scarlet fever in 1848. In the neighborhood in Cedar Township in which the deceased lived for half a century she was known as a most estimable woman, one ever willing to aid in time of trouble or distress, and she held a warm place in the hearts of the pioneer settlers of Jefferson County. The funeral occurred yesterday morning, Rev. D. C. Smith conducting the services. The remains were interred in the Pattison cemetery, in Cedar Township. . . . ."
