* Transcribed for genealogy purposes. I am not related to the person(s) mentioned.

Note: Buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. Public Grounds Row 7 Space 4.

Note: Jefferson County genealogy sources have the given name as Anna May (which is how it is recorded on her 1928 death record). However, a 1920 U.S. Census has her name as "May A.". The name Anna is not on the headstone inscription. Will use "May Anna WILLIAMS HOOTMAN" for this entry with the caution that the first two given names may vary in sources, transposed with each other.

Born in Iowa according to the same 1920 census.

The headstone on this plot is double engraved. The east facing is for "May WILLIAMS HOOTMAN". The west facing is engraved "Infant PHYLISSIS MAY 1928" for the infant daughter that died at the same time as her mother. As noted above, though, the child's name used in the last rites story was "Phyllis May".
