LOCAL WOMAN DIES AT HOME

Mrs. Marvin B. HUMPHREYS, 82, passed away last night at 10:40 p.m. at her home, 803 W. Burlington street after a lingering illness. She broke her leg in a fall 11 months ago and never recovered.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. with Omar Hoskins, funeral director at Brighton, in charge. The services will be here in Fairfield at the Weston Behner funeral home and burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Mr. Hoskins is a long-time friend of the family. Rev. S. P. Williamson will officiate.

Mrs. HUMPHREYS was born March 27, 1865, at The Dells, Oregon, the daughter of the late Martin and Elizabeth GLEASON. She came to this county when six months of age and had lived in this community since.

Mr. and Mrs. HUMPHREYS were married October 27, 1886, during a double wedding ceremony. The other couple was Cora HUMPHREYS, sister of Marvin B., and Jim MERCHANT. The wedding took place at the old HUMPHREYS home southeast of Fairfield.

She and her husband lived on the farm for many years, then moved to Fairfield in 1940. She was a member of the First Christian church.

Besides her husband, Mrs. HUMPHREYS is survived by the following six children: Don HUMPHREYS and Mrs. John DuBOIS, Fairfield; Mrs. Earl DANA, Ottumwa; Mrs. Ned PEQUIGNOT, Fairfield; Mrs. Jesse DAGGETT, Detroit, Michigan. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Robert JOHNSON, Winmar, California, and a half-brother, Fred HUMPHREYS, Pinesdale, California.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorene, who died in 1932, and three grandchildren, Jack DANA, Jenevieve DAGGETT and Billy Jo DAGGETT.

She is a distant relative of Charles G. DAWES, ex-vice president of the United States.

The corrected date should be Friday, October 10, 1947. Buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. 2nd.002.
