Donald J. SMITH, 69, of Keosauqua, died at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011, in the Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren hospice department in Keosauqua.
Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Donald J. SMITH, 69, of Keosauqua, died at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren Hospice in Keosauqua.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with Larry Shipley and Lee McIntosh officiating. The body has been cremated. Interment, with military rites by American Legion Beer-Barker Post No. 113, will be in Purdom Cemetery in Keosauqua.
Family visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials to Purdom Cemetery or American Legion Beer-Barker Post may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 909 Franklin St., Keosauqua 52565.
Mr. SMITH was born July 8, 1941, in Waukon, the son of Loren and Florence MAHONEY SMITH. He married Joyce SCHISSEL April 15, 1967, in Decorah.
Mr. SMITH grew up in Decorah and graduated from Decorah High School. He worked for Skelly Oil Co. in Decorah and managed the Skelgas plant in Keosauqua, both for a total of 14 years. He and his wife also operated Tillie's Tap in Keosauqua for 21 years. He did maintenance work for Country Lane Apartments in Keosauqua for 30 years until his health failed.
Mr. SMITH served in the United States Army from 1963-1965.
Mr. SMITH was commander of American Legion Beer-Barker Post No. 113 in Keosauqua. He was a member of Fairfield Elks Lodge and Keosauqua's Riverview Club. He had served as fire chief in Keosauqua.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Chad SMITH of Iowa City; and three sisters, Karen DEHNING of Marengo, Darlene FRANA of Decorah and Kate HOVDEN of Decorah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Norman, Earl and James SMITH; and two sisters, Mary FRANA and Rita SMITH.
