John E. McINTIRE, 84, 503 S. Third St., died at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 1990, at Jefferson County Hospital.
McINTIRE was born Oct. 24, 1905, in Fairfield, the son of Benjamin and Millie A. WARD McINTIRE. He married Margaret B. BAILEY Jan. 24, 1926. She died Jan. 22, 1934. He then married Elvena B. HUNT Nov. 4, 1934, in Fairfield and she survives.
McINTIRE lived in Fairfield all his life. He was a real estate broker, owning and operating McIntire Real Estate, Inc. for 29 years. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church and a former president of the Jefferson County Hospital Board of Directors.
McINTIRE was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army 34th infantry Division and attaining the rank of colonel. He was a member of the Reserved Officers Association, Retired Officers Association, National Guard Officers Association, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fairfield Lions Club.
He received EAME Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal and three bronze stars, Ardennes, Central Europe and Rhineland.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Regina R. RASCHE and Martha J. CATHEY, both of Fairfield; one son, Frederick A. McINTIRE of Belle Plaine; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two brothers, Glen McINTIRE of Livermore, Calif., and Wayne McINTIRE of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Fred, Emery, Arthur, Robert and Harold.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Free Methodist Church with the Rev. George Koch officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
Family visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home. Friend may call beginnning this afternoon. a memorial has been established to the Free Methodist Campground.

Contributor note: When this contributor first moved to Fairfield in 1973 he rented an apartment quite literally on the floor above the offices of McIntire Real Estate. John's daughter, Regina, with her husband operated the company at the time. The building itself was razed some years ago to make way for the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center just west of the Jefferson County courthouse.
