Harold James PAVELKA

We honor the memory of Harold James PAVELKA, 63, of Fairfield, who passed away from complications of the heart at 11:23 AM on Wednesday, March 23, in the Patanjali Golden Dome of Maharishi University of Management.

Harry was born October 23, 1947 in Altadena, California to Stanley Steve PAVELKA and Peggy McLEAN PAVELKA TAYLOR.

On October 10, 1999 Harry married Susan Helen NORMANDIN at the Barhydt Chapel on the MUM campus.

Harry was a 1965 graduate of LaSalle High School in Pasadena, CA and in 1967 he was instructed in Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation technique in San Francisco, CA. Harry attended Saint Mary's College and San Francisco State University. He attended conferences with Maharishi in Humbolt, CA and went on to become a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation technique in Mallorca, Spain and Fiuggi, Italy. Harry was a student at the original MIU campus in Santa Barbara, CA and was one of the first to arrive at the new campus in Fairfield, IA. In 1985 Harry received his MBA from MIU. Harry was a long-time member of Maharishi's Thousand Headed Purusha Program and was awarded a Doctorate in World Peace from MERU. Dr. PAVELKA was first and foremost a Teacher and Governor of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation program. He was a teaching instructor at MIU in the 1970s, and was the Manager of Heaven on Earth Inns in Houston TX, Ashville NC and Denver CO. Over the past four decades Harry had the joy of holding many responsibilities in Maharishi's worldwide movement and traveled the world teaching his techniques of world peace and the development of consciousness. As an Admissions Representative, Harry used his knowledge of consciousness-based education to inspire students to enroll at MUM. His most recent activities include being a Land Agent in the field of wind energy for Florida Power and Light/Next Era, and being a peace professional for the Invincible America Assembly.

Harry loved to meditate, especially in the Dome, and he enjoyed spending quality time with his wife, mother-in-law and family. He had a deep love of Nature, and enjoyed riding his bike on the trails, and especially looked forward to walking and playing with their two beloved dogs. Harry is known for his brilliant and inquiring mind and fullness of heart. He had the great blessing of being able to ask his teacher Maharishi many insightful questions that brought forth invaluable knowledge and wisdom which will be used for many generations to come. Harry loved to read and expound on Vedic literature, and he also enjoyed reading anything related to History.

Harry is survived by his beloved wife Susan, his mother Peggy and stepfather Zach TAYLOR of Aurora, Colorado, sisters Cathy GUNTHER (Tom) of Pasadena, California, Mary Kay FRANSESCONI of Aurora, Colorado and Marny PAVELKA (Bill OSET) of Morrison, Colorado, 6 nephews, 3 great nieces, 1 great nephew and many cousins and dear friends. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Evelyn NORMANDIN of Fairfield and brother-in-law Charles NORMANDIN of Uttar Kashi India and his two faithful and much loved fur children, Emma and Molly.

Harry was preceded in death by his father, father-in-law and brother.

Harry will be deeply missed, especially by his wife and family, but also by his many friends in the worldwide Transcendental Meditation movement. Everyone is warmly invited to a Memorial Service which will be held at Dalby Hall in the Argiro Center on MUM campus on Sunday March 27 at 2 PM. A dessert reception will follow at the Cosmic Café in the Argiro Center.

In lieu of flowers, 100% of all donations made payable to Sacred Sun Ministries (a 501(c)(3) public non-profit) will be sent to Harry's wife Susan to help with expenses. Checks can be sent to Sacred Sun Ministries, 2581 Glasgow Road, Fairfield, IA 52556.
