Carl BERG

Carl BERG, 78, died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Stacy Grau officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice. Cards and memorials may be sent to 705 W. Taylor Ave., Fairfield 52556.

Mr. BERG was born Sept. 21, 1932, in Pleasant Plain, the son of Charlie and Florence ARMSTRONG BERG. He married Margaret DROZ April 20, 1958, in Fairfield.

Mr. BERG graduated from Fairfield High School in 1950 and then attended Carthage College and Parsons College. He was the Fairfield city treasurer for 10 years.

Mr. BERG served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956 and was a veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. BERG was a life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 1192 and was a past trustee and Elk of the Year in 2001. He was a 54-year member of the American Legion. He also was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1972, Korean War Veteran's National Association, Iowa Tall Corn Chapter No. 99 and First Lutheran Church ELCA. Mr. BERG served on the water board, CALU Apartments board of directors, Evergreen Cemetery board and Jefferson County Home-Health Aid board.

Survivors include his wife and two children: Steven BERG of Fairfield and Susan GRAY and husband Dan of Montezuma.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Juanita LOCK; and one infant brother: Glen.

Carl is survived by his wife: Margaret of Fairfield and 2 children: Steven BERG of Fairfield and Susan (Dan) GRAY of Montezuma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister: Juanita LOCK and 1 infant brother, Glen.
