Stanley Wilbur STRAIT, 81, of rural Keosauqua, died at 1:28 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2011, in the Van Buren County Hospital emergency room in Keosauqua.
A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Raymond Lyon and the Rev. Michael Mosier officiating. Burial will be in Pittsburg Cemetery, west of Keosauqua.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the family present from 4-5:30 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m.
Memorials to Friends of Lacey State Park, Pittsburg Cemetery or a charity of the donor's choice may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 19667 185th St., Keosauqua 52565.
Mr. STRAIT was born July 28, 1929, the son of Bruce Israel and Ethel M. CRAIG STRAIT. He married Juanita LAZENBY July 29, 1956.
Mr. STRAIT spent his life farming and raising sheep, hogs and cattle in the Pittsburg community west of Keosauqua.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict.
Mr. STRAIT was a deacon and cradle roll member of Keosauqua Christian Church. He attended Zion Bible Church near Douds. Mr. STRAIT was a member of the American Legion, Friends of Lacey, Isaac Walton League and Blakesburg Lions Club. He had served on the Van Buren County Extension Council and Farm Bureau, Pork Producers and Southern Iowa Electric Co-op boards. Mr. STRAIT was a life-long member of National Rifle Association, and he started a taxpayer relief association.
Mr. STRAIT enjoyed doing leather tooling, cracking and picking out hickory and walnut meats, attending Bluegrass music shows, picnicking at Ely Ford and working with church youth groups.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters: Davena McKIM and husband Tom of Gibbs, Mo., Debra STRAIT-CLARAHAN and husband Daniel of Harper, Dawn STRAIT CARSTENSEN and husband James of Bellevue, DiAnna STRAIT ALLEN and husband Tom of Mount Sterling and Dena STRAIT and husband Richard LANCTOT of Anchorage, Alaska; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one stepsister, Dana BLASKEY.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother and one infant sister.
