Obituaries

Anna May PIATT

Anna May PIATT, 90, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of rural Lockridge, died Monday, March 14, 2011, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mount Pleasant.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Regan D. Stoops officiating. Burial will be in New Sweden Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lockridge.

Visitation is from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with family present from 6:30-8 p.m.

A memorial has been established to New Sweden Lutheran Church.

Mrs. PIATT was born May 12, 1920, near Four Corners, the daughter of Oscar Frederick and Emma Patience HEUSTON LILLYBLADE. She married Orel H. FRENCH Feb. 25, 1938. The couple later divorced. She married Denver PIATT Sept. 13, 1959. He preceded her in death (sic. 1994).

Mrs. PIATT attended country school in the Four Corners area. She was employed at the Sheaffer Pen Company's former plant in Mount Pleasant on the production line. She then went to work in the laundry department of the Henry County Health Center. For 10 years following, she was employed at Ruby Dry Cleaning in Mount Pleasant, from which she retired.

Mrs. PIATT was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant.

She loved gardening, flowers and bird watching.

Survivors include two sons, John A. FRENCH and wife Chalissa of Thailand and James A. FRENCH and wife Pat of Rio Rancho, N.M.; two daughters, Martha A. HUNT of Fairfield and Janet FRENCH of Missouri; two stepsons, Louis PIATT of Ankeny and Walter PIATT of Huxley; one stepdaughter, Ann WILSON and husband Terry of Mount Pleasant; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband; four sisters, Rose PETERS, Edith WIGGINS, Hope BAILEY and Faith LILLYBLADE; one brother in infancy, Charles LILLYBLADE; two stepsons, David and Kevin PIATT; and one grandson.
