FORMER RESIDENT DIED IN POLK, NEBR. JAN. 30TH.

Mrs. Jacob KNERR, who used to live near Germanville, leaving there in 1873, passed away at her home near Osceola, Neb., Jan. 30th.... Anna Sophia BENSE was born at Hanover, Germany Feb. 1, 1834. At the age of four years she came to America with her parents before the date of steamships, and was 14 weeks crossing the Atlantic. They settled at St. Louis, where they resided for a few years and moved to Jefferson County, Iowa in 1844, where she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage to Jacob KNERR on Aug. 17, 1854. Eight children, six of whom survive the mother. Orietta died in infancy; Clara died Apr. 22 1912, and her husband, Jacob KNERR, died May 9, 1914. Those surviving her are John F., Eli, and Marietta HOLLISTER, who live close to the home place; Ella GIERHART of Oberlin, Kas., and C.B. and Viola, who have lived at home to take care of her in her old age. Leaves also 20 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Also two brothers and two sisters, Margaret CONOVER of Alton, Kas., Mary STAFFORD of Seattle, Wash., H.F. BENSE of Burkett, Nebr., and J.F. BENSE who resides near Osceola (Nebr.). They moved to Polk Co., Nebr. in the spring of 1873 and took a homestead five miles east of Stromsburg and lived on the old homestead for 44 years until her death Jan. 30 at the age of 83 years lacking two days.... Laid to rest on her 83d birthday in the Hoffer cemetery beside her husband and children. The pall bearers were her grandsons C.M. and W.L. HOLLISTER, and her grandsons-in-law, J.O. BOND and T.J. RECORD. Thus passes away another of the old pioneers. German Lutheran Church.
