Page 2, Column 4JOSIAH GARMOE PASSED AWAY ERE THIS MORNING. (sic)
Josiah GARMOE, a highly respected resident of this city, passed away at his home on East Adams street about 9 o'clock this morning, his death being due to a paralytic stroke which he suffered Sunday morning about 2 o'clock.
Josiah GARMOE, the son of Isaac GARMOE, was born in Bedford county, Penn., Jan. 12, 1835. In 1847 he moved from Pennsylvania to what is now known as the Wm. Hendricks farm, near here. Several years ago he moved into the city and resided here until his death.
Mr. GARMOE is survived by one sister, Mrs. Margaret McMURRY (sic - McMURRAY), of Burlington, and also by three children: W. D. GARMOE, Mrs. Charles McPEEK and Miss Adda GARMOE, all of this city.
Mr. GARMOE had long been a faithful member of the Methodist church.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 and will be conducted by Rev. W. R. Keesey. Interment will be made in Evergreen cemtery.

Josiah Garmoe whose funeral was held yesterday afternoon from the First Methodist church, was born January, 1835, near McConnelsburg, Pennsylvania.
He came to Iowa with his parents who settled on the farm in Richwoods now known as the Hendricks farm, in December, 1847. He was married to Hannah Jane GIFT, Sept. 7, 1854, she passing away August 25, 1863. To this union were born three children, William D., James D., who died in infancy, and Mrs. Charles McPEEK of this city. On December 24, 1865, he was again united in marriage with Miss Ruth ECKLES of this city. This second companion also proceeded (sic) him in death, August 23, 1916. To this union was born one daughter, Miss Adda GARMOE of this city. In 1867 Josiah GARMOE moved with his family to the farm southeast of Fairfield, where he lived until he removed to the home in this city where he passed away, Monday, June 3, 1918. He was at the time of his death 83 and one-half years of age.
Josiah GARMOE's grandfather came to America with LaFayette as a commissioned officer in the French army during the last days of the Revolution. At that time the family name was spelled in the French style, "DeGarmeaux." His mother was of Pennsylvania Dutch stock. His brothers were Lawrence, Isaac, Jacob, Andrew and George, all of whom have preceeded him in death. His sisters were Mrs. Jemima RUBLE, Mrs. Catherine (sic. Catharine) FRYMAN, Mrs. Elizabeth COOPER formerly of Salem, Iowa; and Mrs. Margaret McMURRAY now living in Burlington, Ia. Mrs. McMURRAY is now the only living member of the family.
He also leaves two nephews and a niece, Isaac and Wesley and Mary FRYMAN. Also the following grand-(sic.) FRYMAN. Also the following grand- (sic) Rapids, Carl E. GARMOE, Arlo McPEEK, Ota May McPEEK, Dolliver McPEEK, all of Fairfield. Also the following great grandchildren, Ruth E. GARMOE of Fairfield and Virginia L. GARMOE of Cedar Rapids.
Mr. GARMOE became a member of the Methodist church at the Upper Richwoods appointment early in life, where he retained his membership until after his removal to the farm east of the city, when he transferred it to the oldZion (sic) church of this city, and after the union of the two churches, he bacame a member of the First Methodist church of Fairfield.
He was a faithful and consistent (sic.)
Further information was received the church of his choice choice in every possible way (sic). His home was the preacher's home, being always open for his reception. He loved his home and his family, and since the death of his companion two years ago he has looked with joyful anticipation to the time when he would meet her again.

He loved his home and his family. And since the death of his companion two years ago he has looked with joyful anticipation to the time when he would meet her again.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:30, from the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. W. R. Keesey, assisted by Rev. W. G. Thorn of Grandview, Ia.
