Page 3, Column 5DIED,--At her late residence in Fairfield, Iowa, on Monday, March 15th, 1884 (sic - 1885), Mary, beloved wife of James HICKENBOTTOM, in the fifty-first year of her age.
The deceased, whose maiden name was MERCER, was born and raised in Pike Co., Ill., near Pitsfield. She came to Iowa in 1852 and was married to her first husband, Samuel RISTINE, in 1853. The fruit of this union was five children, three of whom survive. Mr. RISTINE having died, she was married in August, 1880, to James HICKENBOTTOM, of this city. She had been in failing health for several months, but no serious fears were felt until within a few weeks of her death. Mrs. HICKENBOTTOM was a faithful wife, a loving mother and a kind neighbor. The large number at her funeral showed how general and how deep was the respect felt for hər by all her neighbors (sic). Alout (sic) twelve years ago she became a member of the M. E. Church and lived a faithful Christian life until her death. May she rest in peace.

Although her obituary gives her death date as the 15th, her gravestone shows the 16th, and age as 50 years, 10 months, 18 days. Her Death Certificate clarifies this - she died at 6:00 a.m. on the 16th. Second husband James HICKENBOTTOM is in Union Cemetery with his first wife, Jane C. ALLISON.
