DIED -- At her late residence in Fairfield, Iowa, on Monday, March 15 1884 (sic - 1885), Mary, beloved wife of James HICKENBOTTOM, in the 51st year of her age. Maiden name was MERCER; born and raised in Pike County, Ill., near Pitsfield. Came to Iowa in 1852 and was married to her first husband, Samuel RISTINE, in 1853. The fruit of this union was five children, three of whom survive. Mr. RISTINE having died, she was married in Aug. 1880 to James HICKENBOTTOM, of this city...... M.E. Ch.

Note: Mary is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, with her first husband Samuel in Lot Old.P.341. Although her obituary gives her death date as the 15th, her gravestone shows the 16th, and age as 50 years, 10 months, 18 days. Second husband James HICKENBOTTOM is in Union Cemetery with his first wife, Jane C. ALLISON.
