Eva MYERS Dies At 101, Oldest County Resident

BATAVIA - Mrs. Eva MYERS, 101, died Saturday at 11:10 a.m. at the Jefferson County Hospital. A resident of Leedom's Rest Home in Batavia, she died a few minutes after being admitted to the hospital.

Mrs. MYERS was Jefferson County's oldest citizen.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Abingdon Christian Church with the Rev. Byron Newland officiating. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. The casket will be taken from the Campbell Funeral Chapel in Batavia to the church at 10 a.m.

Mrs. MYERS was a lifetime resident of Jefferson County with the exception of 10 years spent in Andalusia, Ill. She was born Nov. 16, 1868 in Locust Grove Township, the daughter of Wiley and Martha LEEPER HITE. She was reared in the Brookville community.

Mrs. MYERS was married to Curtis MYERS May 17, 1886. He preceded his wife in death in 1929. Surviving is one son, Leonard MYERS, Geneseo, Ill.

Other survivors are eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Margaret HITE, Fairfield; and Mrs. Cora WILLIAMSON, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and one brother, Frank HITE, Phillipsburg, Kan.

Six children preceded her in death.

Mrs. MYERS was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. She was honored as the oldest member of the Batavia Community when Batavia observed its centennial in 1968.
