OBITUARY

ANGELINE ELMORE PICKERING

Martha Angeline ELMORE was born on Sept. 11, 1861 in Jefferson county, Tenn. She departed this life on March 21, 1941 at 9:30 a.m. being at the time of her death 79 years, six months and 20 days. She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth PEARCE ELMORE, the youngest and last surviving of a family of six children. Her entire family preceded her in death.

She came to Iowa when a young woman and on April 13, 1889, was united in marriage to John H. PICKERING. For many years they made their home in Fairfield where Mr. PICKERING was an engineer at the Turney Wagon Works. They were the parents of four children, two sons and two daughters. Her oldest son, Glen preceded her in death on April 16, 1910 and her husband passed away on Sept. 13, 1919.

The surviving loved ones are her son Elmer and daughter Mary with whom she made her home in Richland and Mrs. Frank ASH of Brighton, Iowa. With these there are three grandchildren Isabelle, Eloise and Frank Laverne ASH of Brighton. One sister-in-law, Mrs. William ELMORE of Fairfield. Besides these a number of nieces and nephews and many friends will mourn her passing.

She was a kind and loving wife and mother, always devoted to her home and family. She joined the church early in life and although denied the privilege of attending the church in recent years she enjoyed the radio services from the home.

She has been in poor health for some eight years and was seriously ill for three weeks. All that loving hands could do was of no avail. Surrounded by her loved ones she passed peacefully away on Monday morning.

Funeral services were held from the Pleasant Plain church on Wednesday afternoon conducted by S. P. Williamson, minister of the First Christian church of Fairfield. The hymns were sung by the Simmons Quartet accompanied by Mrs. Simmons. The numbers used were "Going Down The Valley", "Some Day The Silver Cord" and "Will the Circle Be Unbroken". Pallbearers were Paul Simmons, Wm. Gilbert, Frank Baker, Charlie Baker, Clayton Parcell and Paul Rynor. The funeral arrangements were carried out by the Morris Gould Funeral Home of Richland, successors to the Alvin Allen Home. The remains were interred in the Pleasant Plain cemetery by the side of her husband.
