H. E. WHITNEY, PROMINENT IN BUSINESS, DIES

A prominent Fairfield businessman passed away at the Ottumwa hospital last night where he had been a patient for the past several days.

He is Harry E. WHITNEY, 42, co-partner of the Young and Whitney monument firm located at 601 S. Depot street.

Mr. WHITNEY had been in failing health the past three months and seriously ill the past three weeks. He was suffering from a heart ailment which caused his death at 10:45 p.m.

Harry WHITNEY and his brother-in-law, Warren E. YOUNG, established the firm bearing their name in 1934 where it is now located. Previously they had been in business with Mr. WHITNEY’s father, the late L. E. WHITNEY.

Last rites will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist church with Dr. L. L. Weis in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body is at the Monger funeral home.

Harry Ellsworth WHITNEY was born November 11, 1905, at Keosauqua, Iowa, the son of the late Lewis and Blanche WHITNEY. The family moved to Fairfield when Harry was seven years of age.

He was united in marriage July 3, 1925, to Dorothy FISHER who survives.

“Fuzzy,” as his many friends knew Harry WHITNEY, was a member of the Methodist church, Masonic lodge, Shrine and the Elks lodge. He was active in community affairs.

Besides his wife, Mr. WHITNEY is survived by the following children, Lewis, Mary Ellen and Linda, all at home. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Warren YOUNG, Fairfield, and Mrs. R. E. CRAIL, Los Angeles, California.
