William ROACH, 84, passed away at 1:48 a.m. today at his home one mile east of Beckwith. He had been in failing health the past six months, and had been very seriously ill since last Thursday.
He was born near New London, August 29, 1861, and has been a resident of Jefferson County since March 1, 1862. He was married March 26, 1895 to Katherine SULLIVAN who survives him.
Other survivors are: four sons; Clair W. ROACH at home, Edward ROACH of Wenactchee, Wash’, (sic) Cecil ROACH of Burlington and Pfc. Joe ROACH somewhere in the Southwest Pacific; two daughters Irene and Mattie ROACH at home; two brothers, Dave ROACH of Mount Pleasant and Thomas ROACH of Russell; three sisters, Mrs. Mary McDERMOTT and Mrs. Kate McDAVITT of Ottumwa and Miss Ellen ROACH of East Pleasant Plain; two grandchildren, Dorothy Ellen and Robert ROACH.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Martin, Ed, John and Michael and two sisters, Margaret and one who died in infancy.
The body has been taken to the Hoskins funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Father H. M. Thoman in charge.

Note: William was buried in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield. His wife Katherine died in 1955 and is buried beside him. They are in section St. Mary 42, he in space 1 and she in space 2.
