Velma MASDEN Taken In Death

Death came last night to Velma Genevieve MASDEN, popular instructor in the Fairfield school system for the past five years.

She passed away at 9:30 p.m. at the Jefferson County hospital where she had been a patient for the past six weeks.

Last rites will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Dr. L. L. Weis and the Rev. H. T. Rasche officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Miss MASDEN had devoted her life to the teaching profession. She taugh (sic) for 21 years in the schools at Tipton, Ia., and had also taught at Mason City and Fremont, Ia., before coming to the Roosevelt school here in Fairfield five years ago.

Velma Genevevie (sic) MASDEN, 53, was born May 25, 1900 near Salem in Henry county. She was the daughter of Frank and Amy EMERSON MASDEN.

She was reared and educated in this community. She attended the Fairfield high school, Parsons college and the State Teachers college at Cedar Falls.

She was a member of the Methodist church, D.A.R., and the B.P.W. club.

Miss MASDEN is survived by her brother, Emerson MASDEN, and a sister, Inez, both of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her parents.
