DEATH TAKES MRS. IRELAND

Mrs. W. B. IRELAND, well-known Fairfield resident, died this morning at the McCleary nursing home where she had been a patient for the past year. She was 86 years old.

The wife of the late Rev. W. B. IRELAND, Mrs. IRELAND made her home at 303 W. Washington street. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Methodist church in charge of Dr. L. L. Weis, Dr. M. A. Gable, former local pastor, will assist. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. IRELAND was born Nov. 3, 1864 in Chillicothe, Mo., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. HUGHES. She attended public schools in Keokuk and graduated from Iowa Wesleyan college. She was married to the Rev. W. B. IRELAND in 1892. He preceded her in death April 8, 1942.

The Rev. and Mrs. IRELAND moved to Fairfield in 1934 upon his retirement from the ministry. The Rev. IRELAND served many Southeastern Iowa pastorates during 42 years in the ministry.

Mrs. IRELAND was an active member of the Fairfield Methodist church. She taught the Wesleyan Bible class and was secretary of the Women’s Home Missionary society for many years. She was also a member of P.E.O and the D.A.R.

She is survived by one son, Raymond M. IRELAND, of Richland, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Mrs. IRELAND was a first cousin of Rupert HUGHES, noted writer, and of Howard HUGHES, Sr., father of Howard HUGHES, California movie producer and around-the-world flier.

The body is at the Weston Behner Funeral home and will be taken to the church at noon Saturday.
