Death came this morning after an illness of several months
James M. HAMMON, well known office executive at the Iowa Malleable Iron Company for the past 34 years, passed away at 9:45 a.m. today at the Jefferson county hospital where he had been a patient for the past several weeks. His death came after an extended illness.
Mr. HAMMON was born in Fairfield September 15, 1893 and spent his entire life in this community. He was well known and took an active part in civic and church affairs. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic church and of the local Elks Lodge. Mr. HAMMON received his early education in the old Franklin school and later attended the Howard Business College in Fairfield.
He was married December 14, 1916 in the Cathedral at Lincoln, Neb.
Mr. HAMMON is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Vivienne ZEPP, and one grandson, Jimmy ZEPP, all of Fairfield.
He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Frances HAMMON, Fairfield and the following sisters: Mrs. W. S. NOWLIN and Mrs. Al WHITMORE, both of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Irene KENDRICK, Fairfield; three brothers: George, Fairfield; Richard, with the U. S. Navy stationed at Minneapolis, Minn.; and Lt. Col. Bernard HAMMON, with the U. S. armed forces.
Three aunts, Miss Mary ACKERMAN, Fairfield; Sister M. Bernard, Davenport; and Sister M. Elizabeth, Centerville, also survive.
The body was taken to the Hoskins funeral home where funeral arrangements are pending the word from distant relatives.

Funeral services for James M. HAMMON, life-long resident of Fairfield, will be held Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic church in charge of Rev. Fr. H. M. Thoman. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. HAMMON passed away at the Jefferson county hospital Friday morning following an extended illness.

The funeral of James HAMMON, held Monday morning at 9 a.m. from St. Mary's Catholic church brought many relatives and friends from a distance.
Burial was in Evergreen cemetery with the following serving as pall-bearers: Warren Young, Charles Gossick, August Van Lantschoot, Wilson Heflin, Wayne Harris and Guy Lawrence. The Rev. Fr. Thoman officiated.
Coming the greatest distance was a brother, Lieut. Col. Bernard HAMMON who flew to the states from his army foreign base somewhere in the south. He was met by his wife and their two daughters Mary Ann and Jude who had been in Omaha. Also at Omaha was Mr. HAMMON's sister, Mrs. A. A. WHITMORE (Helen HAMMON) of Seattle, Wash, who was en route to her brother's bedside at the time of his death. Another brother 2-c petty officer Richard HAMMON who came from Minneapolis, Minn. will remain until Sunday. Mrs. Bernard HAMMON and daughters who resided here until last fall will again make Fairfield their home following Lieut. Col. HAMMON's departure.
Another service man in attendance was Mrs. James HAMMON's only brother, Cpl. Don PAUL of the Marines, stationed at Camp Allen at Norfolk, Va. He with his wife returned to Chicago, yesterday afternoon from where he will proceed back to Norfolk.
Miss Garnett OSBORN of Alexis, Ill., cousin of Mrs. HAMMON will remain a few days longer. Among others here from away were Mrs. Glenn Richardson of Galesburg, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. J. E. PAUL and son Francis, Earl Harrington, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Brown and William Kestling all of Ottumwa.

Notice is hereby given that an instrument, purporting to be the last Will and Testament of James HAMMON, Deceased is now on file in the office of the Clerk of the District Court of Jefferson County, and that Saturday, June 12th A. D. 1943 at 9:30 o'clock A. M. has been set for proof and final hearing of same.
Witness my hand and the seal of said Court, this 15th day of May, 1943.
