W. C. HARRELL Suffers Stroke Last Night

W. C. HARRELL, well known retired C. B. & Q. station agent, suffered a severe stroke last evening at his home, 902 E. Burlington St. about 6 p.m.

He was taken immediately to the Jefferson county hospital where his condition at press time remained the same.

A daughter Mrs. Dick MOORHOUSE arrived from Glidden last night and Lieut. Wayne HARRELL is expected to arrive tomorrow, called from his base at Abiliene, Texas. Two other daughter Mrs. R. N. REIMENSCHNEIDER of Indianapolis, Ind. and Mrs. M. D. PERSON of Louisville, Ky. have not been heard from as to their plans of arrival.

HARRELL Reported Unimproved Today

The condition of W. C. HARRELL, retired C. B. and Q. station agent, who suffered a severe stroke Tuesday evening is reported as critical and unimproved today.

HARRELL was taken to the Jefferson county hospital immediately following the stroke, and has been there since that time.

W. C. HARRELL PASSES AWAY AT HOSPITAL

Services for prominent Fairfield man to be held 2:00 p.m. Monday

Death came to W. C. HARRELL, 902 East Burlington, prominent Fairfield resident and retired C. B. & Q. station agent, around 3:25 o’clock yesterday afternoon.

HARRELL passed away at the Jefferson county hospital, where he was taken Wednesday evening following a stroke. Mr. HARRELL had been in failing health for the past year.

He was born in Bethany, Mo. September 23, 1879, and came to Fairfield from Cainsville, Mo., 29 years ago.

HARRELL was an employee of the C. B. & Q. Railroad for 45 years. He took an active part in local organizations and community affairs. He was a veteran of the Spanish American War, a member of the Clinton Lodge A.F.&A.M., the Woodan Lodge (sic – ??? Modern Woodmen’s Lodge?) and I.O.O.F. No. 4.

Mr. HARRELL is survived by his wife and six children including: Mrs. Wilma PERSON, Louisville, Ky., Mrs. Edna REIMENSCHNEIDER, Indianapolis, Ind., Sgt. Russell HARRELL, North Africa; Mrs. Thelma MOORHOUSE, Glidden, Iowa; Pfc. Kenneth HARRELL, New Guinea, and Lt. Wayne HARRELL, Camp Barkley, Tex.

He is also survived by one grandson, David MOORHOUSE, one brother, A. W. HARRELL, Savannah, Ga., and one sister, Mrs. Walter DOWNS, Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by a son, Willard Cecil, who died at the age of one mouth (sic – ‘n’ typeset inverted).

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o’clock (sic) Monday afternoon at the Hoskins Funeral Home with the Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Burial will take place in the Evergreen cemetery.

W. C. HARRELL

Willard Clarence HARRELL, son of Hiram and Rebecca HARRELL, passed away at the Jefferson county hospital, Fairfield, Iowa, Oct. 22, 1943.

He was born near Grant City, Mo., Sept. 23, 1879. After serving his country in the Spaish American War, he was employed by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy railroad, working in Scottsfield, Nebr., St. Charles, Iowa, Cainesville, Mo. and Fairfield, Iowa. He came to Fairfield, Oct. 14, 1914, and retired April 29, 1943, because of ill health.

He was married to Lena JONES on Jan. 7, 1907 in Alliance, Nebr. Seven children were born to them, Cecil, Wilma, Edna, Russell, Thelma, Kenneth and Wayne. Cecil preceded his father in death, passing away at the age of one month. Besides Mrs. HARRELL and the six children he is survived by one grandson, David MOORHOUSE, one brother, A. W. HARRELL, and one sister, Mrs. Walter DOWNS.

HARRELL was one of Fairfield's most highly respected citizens and will be missed by a wide circle of friends and relatives. He took an active part in local organization, and community affairs. He was local chairman of O.R.T., Ottumwa Division, a member of the Clinton Lodge A.F. & A.M., the Woodman lodge and I.O.O.F. No. 4.

Funeral services were held from the Hoskins funeral home Monday, October 25. S. P. Williamson, minister of the First Christian church conducted the services. Pallbearers were D. A. Ricketts, R. C. Norman, Dr. E. C. Bock, Wayne Harris, R. H. Stout and Carl Tygret.

The remains were laid to rest in the Evergreen cemetery in Fairfield.
