"ALLEN MACY DIES FROM PARALYTIC STROKE SATURDAY. Death follows a four days period of unconsciousness. Allen Macy, 82, died Feb 24 at 3:50 P.M. at his home here. . . . .Funeral services were conducted from the Friends church at Pleasant Plain Monday afternoon in charge of the pastor, Rev. L. A. Phinney, assisted by Rev. R. W. Fillmore. . . . .The following obituary was read at the services: Allen Macy, son of Stephen and Mary Charles Macy, was born April 18 1858 and passed to the Great Beyond Feb 24 1940 at his home in Brighton, Iowa, at the age of 82 years 10 months and 6 days. He was married to Martha Frederick on his 25th birthday in 1883 at the bride's home in Jefferson County, by Rev. Samuel Q. Helfinstine, minister of the Antioch Church of Christ. Next April would have completed 57 years of happy married life. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in April 1933. . . . .He had a birthright membership in the Walnut Friends Church. When that meeting was laid down his birthright was moved to the Pleasant Plain church. He sought to exemplify his Master in his daily life as well as to serve Him in taking responsibility in regular church work, as far as his health would permit. In his home he was faithful in keeping up his family altar and enjoyed reading his Bible. To this union were born six children, Laura Ann dying in infancy. Left to mourn are his wife, and the following children: Otto Stephen, Oklahoma; Estella B. Welsh, Orlando, Florida; Mary Edith Hoskins, Pleasant Plain; Irene P. Duttweiler, Atchison, Kans.; Olivia C. Elmore, Fairfield; 18 grandchildren; 6 greatgrandchildren, one brother John in Woodston, Kans., besides other relatives and a host of friends. . . . .Burial was in Friends Cemetery at Pleasant Plain. Mrs. Estella Welsh, Orlando, Fla., and Otto Stephen Macy were unable to attend their father's funeral, as were also Hubert Frederick, Marshalltown, brother of Mrs. Macy, and John Macy of Woodston, Kansas."
